Ręka Pańska była z nim

     Przyszliśmy do świętego Jana i pytamy się tak jak żołnierze, jak celnicy: Co mamy dalej robić?
     Gdy pytali go żołnierze, to przysłuchujący się z pewnością oczekiwali odpowiedzi: „Porzućcie ten zbrodniczy zawód i chwyćcie się za inną robotę”. Gdy pytali celnicy, to ludzie postronni spodziewali się, że powie Jan: „Rzućcie ten przeklęty zawód i zajmijcie się czym innym”.
     Gdy pytamy świętego Jana Chrzciciela: Co mamy dalej robić? usłyszymy odpowiedź taką samą, jaką im dał: Wypełniać uczciwie swoje obowiązki zawodu, powołania, służby, jaką mamy w społeczeństwie.

Lord’s hand was with him.

 
     We have come to Saint John and ask him like soldiers, like tax collectors:  What shall we do now?
      When the soldiers asked him, the listeners certainly expected the answer:  “Drop this criminal profession and get some other job.”  When the tax collectors asked, the bystanders expected John to say: “Drop that cursed profession and start doing something else.”
      Should we ask Saint John the Baptist:  What shall we do now?; we would hear the same answer, which he gave them:  Honestly fulfill the duties of your profession, your call, and your service for the society.
