II NIEDZIELA ADWENTU

„Głos na pustyni”

     Jan Chrzciciel, spalony słońcem pustyni, pustelnik w odzieniu z sierści wielbłądziej, żywiący się szarańczą i miodem leśnym, zapowiada przyjście Jezusa, który będzie chrzcił nie wodą, a Duchem Świętym.
     Będzie On jeszcze surowszym pustelnikiem? Jeszcze bardziej umartwiony? Jeszcze dziwaczniej ubrany? Jeszcze dotkliwiej głodujący? A pojawił się Człowiek ubrany jak wszyscy, jedzący, pijący to, co inni, który nie domagał się od słuchaczy, aby pokutowali na pustyni, tylko aby byli życzliwi dla ludzi.
     I okazuje się, że to jest trudniejsze niż post i samotność.

2nd Sunday of Advent

”Voice in the desert”

     John the Baptist, burnt by the desert sun, a hermit dressed in clothes made of camel’s hair, feeding on locust and wild honey, announces coming of Jesus, who will not baptize with water, but with the Holly Spirit.
     Is He going to be even stricter of a hermit?  Even more mortified?  Dressed in stranger clothes?  Fasting even more intensely?  And a Man showed up, dressed like everybody else, eating and drinking like everybody else, who did not demand that His listeners do penance in the desert.  He demanded only that they are kind to other people.
     Turns out that it is more difficult than fasting and solitude.
