WIERZYSZ JESZCZE W MIŁOŚĆ? Czy
wierzysz, że może być człowiek na świecie, który
potrafi zrobić coś dla ciebie, a nie
dla swojego interesu. Czy
wierzysz w miłość? Czy
wierzysz, że ty możesz żyć bezinteresownie.
Pytam o to tym bardziej,
im więcej masz lat,
im bardziej sparzyłeś się na ludziach
i na sobie samym,
im bardziej przejrzałeś twoje i ludzi
wszystkie okrągłe słowa,
słodkie uśmiechy,
udawane serdeczności,
tak zwane podarunki,
świadczone pomoce – które okazują się
pozorami, mającymi na końcu
zawsze własny interes.
A nie możesz nie
wierzyć w to, że miłość jest możliwa. Przecież
tylko życie bezinteresowne
jest warunkiem
człowieczeństwa.

DO STILL BELIEVE IN LOVE? Do you
believe that there might be a person in the world who
can do something for you and not
in his self-interest.  Do

you believe in love?  Do you
believe that you can live unselfishly.

I ask this the more
the older you are
the more you have been burnt by people
and by yourself

the more you’ve seen through your own rounded words
and those of others,
through the sweet smiles,
feigned cordiality,
so called gifts,
help given – which turn out to be
just appearances, in the end always
done in self-interest.

But you must
believe that love is possible.  For
only disinterested life
is a condition
of humanity.
